Body Art - Body Painting

Body art is art made on, with, or consisting of, the human body. The most common forms of body art are tattoos and body piercings, but other types include scarification, branding, scalpelling, shaping, full body tattoo and body painting.

Body art is also a sub-category of performance art, in which artists use or abuse their own body to make their particular statements.

BodyPainting, is the art of using a male or female, live human body, as the canvas for the painting, of a non-permanent decorative art piece. Body painting also has the added pressure on the artist that the "canvas" cannot wait for days while the artist relaxes or looks for further inspiration.

A body painting session is normally completed and photographed within a day. The model is then free to wash off the art piece. The only remaining record, left behind; the photographs and memories of the event. The artist Craig Tracy featured in the photos below has created a unique gallery for the images of such events.

In ancient times, body painting was done on a uniform pattern but now it is being done at more diverse level. Sometimes, body painting is by mistake taken as a tattoo art.

The fundamental difference between body painting and tattoo art is that body painting is temporary in application and can be easily removed whereas tattooing the body is a very painful and risky process.

Body painting is useful in circus where clowns have their body painted in multitude of colors and also to add some extra effects, the technique of body painting is also used in film industries across the world. Different designs and patterns are applied on the body such as any event, noted personality, festive occasion or anything form the daily life can drawn as a part of body painting.

Body painting can be applied on nude and semi-nude body besides getting one area of the body painted. In the modern era, body painting has become a full-fledged profession undertaken by both beginners and trained people.

Body painting can be seen in body painting festivals organized in many countries, in wrestling arenas, rambler's parties and sometimes in football matches. In India, the art of body painting is used in the classical dance of kuchipuddi.

In the fashion industry, models are often masked into various characters and environment to give a real look. Full body painting is so meticulously done that it is worth a masterpiece. Face painting is also an integral part of body painting and is very popular among children. In amusement parks and sports stadiums, face painting is the most popular options available in body painting. But, some precautions need to be taken before choosing body painting.

Newest body paints must be initially applied on to a smaller area on the body so as to confirm whether the person is allergic to body paint or not. Only that kind of body paints must be used that can be easily removed from the body.
